To clean the steel surface, begin by wiping away any loose dirt or debris with a damp cloth, taking care not to overly wet the rubber base.
For more thorough cleaning, you can make a paste from baking soda and water or use mild dish soap with warm water. Gently scrub the steel area using a soft-bristled brush or a soft cloth in circular motions to avoid scratching the surface. After cleaning, rinse the steel block under lukewarm water, making sure to keep the rubber dry as much as possible. Immediately dry the steel thoroughly with a lint-free cloth or soft towel to prevent rust. To further protect the steel, especially if you won’t be using it for a while, you can apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or light machine oil to the steel surface. Wipe off any excess before storing. Be careful not to get lubricant on the rubber base, as this could make it slippery or degrade the rubber over time. Regular maintenance by wiping down the steel after each use and storing it in a dry place will help preserve both the steel and rubber components of your bench block.
